Here is an overview of my Pocahontas Artwork Cosplay by Hannah Alexander.
A few months ago my friend Julia asked me to join a group Cosplay for the VIECC. VIECC is a Comic Con in Vienna and also one of the biggest in Austria which attracts a lot of international visitors. It was a chance to catch up with some friends again and so i agreed.
The topic was a group cosplay with the Disney Artworks of Hannah Alexander. Hannah Alexander is an artist who makes incredible fanarts and cosplayers all over the world get inspired by her designs. Here are some examples of hers:
My choice was to make the Pocahontas Cosplay because I like her warrior side and her strong personality. On the first look the Cosplay seems really easy to make but it's quite tricky. It has some delicate details around the neck. I made some research of other cosplayers to see how they did it. First of all there are not many cosplayers who made this exact costume and second of all - everyone was doing it differently. I have decided that I'm going to stitch everything by hand - and boy, that took me a while.
As mentioned before the dress has lots of tiny details and I didn't manage to make them all on time. I set my focus on the stitching part and i liked especially the part around the neck the most.
I got asked a lot how I made the feathers. This was one of the easiest part - it's made out of felt. I simply cut it out and painted it with acrylic paint.
The hairband is just stitched on the front side of the head. I sewed an elasticband on the back side so it's easy to put it on and off any time. The flowers are all glued together with hot glue and get clipped on with a hair clip.
Overall the costume took me something between 40 and 50 hours to finish. It turned out to be one of my favourite cosplays so far. All the handwork that is included was so much fun and the best thing - it's comfy. Yey!
